Funding Opportunity: Support for Student Gulf Impact Projects

Do you have a Gulf-related internship, research opportunity, or other experiential learning activity in mind? Are you working with a faculty mentor or community partner and looking for funding to support your project? The Gulf Scholars Program is offering funding to help you pursue these impactful opportunities focused on the Gulf region. 

What We’re Looking For

We are offering funding to support experiential learning opportunities that are directly connected to your Gulf Impact Project. Whether it’s an internship, fellowship, research opportunity, or other Gulf-related activity, your experience should contribute to an ongoing or planned Gulf Impact Project. This project must be focused on the Gulf region, from Florida to Texas, and aim to produce actionable results that benefit Gulf communities.

Preference will be given to students who are pursuing the Gulf Scholars Medallion. 

What’s Required

  • You’re work on the project must last at least one semester, though shorter summer programs may qualify with prior approval.
  • The project must include civic engagement, ensuring the work benefits Gulf communities.
  • Students must work with a UF faculty member or community partner who will guide them through the project. You will submit a syllabus developed in collaboration with your mentor outlining your learning goals and objectives at the start of the experience.
  • A tangible deliverable (e.g., a report, presentation, product) is required at the conclusion of the project.
  • A final reflection documenting your learning and the impact of your project must be submitted.

Funding Details

You can apply for funding to support your project in the following ways:

Stipends:

  • $1,200 for Fall, Spring, or Summer C projects
  • $750 for Summer A/B projects

Travel/Materials Costs:

  • Available if working with a UF faculty or staff mentor.
  • If working with an outside mentors, you may only request stipends for funding.

  • You will be asked to submit a project description, budget, and a letter of support from your faculty or community partner member.
  • Applicants will be notified by May 5.
  • Proposed projects may take place in Summer A/B/C or Fall 2025.
