Are you ready to make an impact in the Gulf region while advancing your academic and professional goals?

In Fall 2025,  UF Gulf Scholars is excited to offer several funded experiential learning opportunities that fulfill the Experiential Learning + Gulf Impact Project requirement for the Gulf Scholars medallion.

These competitive positions are open to all UF students, with preference given to those pursuing the medallion. If you haven’t yet enrolled in this new program, it’s not too late!   • All positions take place during the Fall 2025 semester
  • Position compensation includes $1,200 stipend for 6–10 hours of work per week 
  • Academic credit is available upon request

Seagrass Research Internships with the UF Coastal and Marine  Ecology Lab

Explore the vital role of Florida’s seagrass ecosystems through one of two hands-on research internships. The Gulf Coast Seagrass Stress Ecology Internship focuses on studying how climate and environmental factors affect seagrass health in the Gulf, while the Seagrass-Microbe Interactions Internship investigates the dynamic relationships between seagrasses and their microbial communities. These positions offer fieldwork, lab research, science communication opportunities and mentorship from leading marine scientists.

CLEO Institute – Gulf Scholars Climate Communication Outreach Internship

Work with The CLEO Institute, a leading climate advocacy and education organization, to design and implement outreach strategies that connect Gulf region residents with science-based climate information. This internship is ideal for students interested in environmental communication, policy, or community engagement.

Archival Research & Digital Exhibit in Cuban Studies Internship

Dig deep into the intersections of Gulf history and Cuban Studies through archival research that will support the creation of a digital exhibit. Ideal for students with interests in history, Latin American studies, or digital humanities.

Gulf Scholars Environmental Communicators Internship

Join the UF Thompson Earth Systems Institute to become a Gulf Scholars Environmental Communicator. You’ll help translate complex environmental research related to the Gulf region into accessible stories for public audiences through writing, social media, and multimedia projects. Perfect for students interested in science communication, journalism, or environmental education.

Operation TRAP Gulf Scholars Internship

Support NOAA’s mission to mitigate marine debris impacts through the UF Operation TRAP project. Intern responsibilities include maintaining litter interception devices, collecting data, training volunteers, managing outreach efforts, and presenting findings. Ideal for students interested in environmental science, data collection, and community engagement.
