Gulf Scholars Florida Springs Council (FSC) Legislative Internship

The Florida Springs Council (FSC) is a nonprofit environmental advocacy organization that gives Florida’s environment a voice in the courts and in the Capitol. Working alongside a statewide network of environmental lobbyists, FSC tracks legislation, supports or opposes bills, and coordinates efforts with legislators to advance environmental protection across Florida.

With funding from the UF Gulf Scholars Program, this internship offers University of Florida students hands-on experience in environmental policy and legislative advocacy. Interns will help FSC research, track, and report on bills and appropriations related to Florida Gulf issues during the 2026 Legislative Session.

Program Benefits

Selected interns will:

  • Receive a $1,200 stipend upon completion. 
  • Gain firsthand experience in tracking and analyzing environmental legislation.
  • Learn how advocacy organizations engage with policymakers and legislative processes.
  • Attend weekly meetings with FSC staff and participate in collaborative calls and virtual meetings with environmental organizations.
  • Have opportunities to join FSC at the Capitol for lobby days and committee meetings.
  • Contribute to FSC’s mission of protecting Florida’s springs, coasts, and natural resources.

Program Components 

  • Identify and monitor bills and appropriation items related to Gulf and environmental issues.
  • Support FSC’s legislative team by preparing updates and summaries throughout the session.
  • Participate in environmental coalition meetings and advocacy planning discussions.
  • Observe the legislative process at the state level.
  • Develop professional skills in research, communication, and legislative analysis

Final Deliverable:
By the end of the semester, interns will produce a comprehensive list and summary of environmental bills and appropriations impacting the Gulf that were filed and voted on during the 2026 Legislative Session.

Eligibility

  • Open to University of Florida undergraduate students enrolled full-time and in good academic standing.
  • Ideal for students interested in environmental policy, advocacy, or communication.
  • Ability to work independently, attend virtual meetings, and manage ongoing legislative tasks.
